Effy Vayena is Professor of Bioethics at ETH Zurich. She holds a PhD in Medical History (Univ. of Minnesota) and a habilitation in Bioethics and Health Policy (Univ. of Zurich). For several years, she served as a technical officer at the World Health Organization, and in 2015 founded the Health Ethics and Policy Lab, to address questions around the use of genomics and big data in healthcare.

Vayena is a Faculty Associate at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University. She is a member of the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences, and co-chairs the WHO advisory group on AI Health Ethics and Governance. She was recently named chair of the Greek National Bioethics and Technoethics Commission.
