As part of its new Anticipation Gateway Initiative, aimed at democratizing early understanding and uses of emerging science, GESDA established the Geneva Public Portal to Anticipation, an interactive exhibition at the intersection of arts, science and diplomacy, empowering citizens from diverse backgrounds to anticipate and co-create our future based on the GESDA Science Breakthrough Radar®.
With the help of generative AI, visitors create fictional futures based on their inputs and science trends from the Radar projected over the next five, 10, and 25 years.
This interactive journey provides a space for the imagination beyond what now exists, where people and AI can co-create new narratives to navigate unpredictable futures and tackle complex global challenges through interdisciplinary collaboration.
With that, GESDA aims to anchor science anticipation, focusing on opportunities for future generations, as a core part of the decision-making frameworks that are used by policymakers and citizens alike.
The goal is to ignite a global dialogue to deepen engagement with emerging science topics, as well as empowering citizens to take informed action. Ultimately, through playful and artistic engagement with science, the Geneva Public Portal to Anticipation will build bridges between science and society, fostering a debate on the use of scientific knowledge and, ultimately, trust in science. The mission of the Geneva Public Portal to Anticipation aligns with global efforts like the United Nations’ Pact for the Future.
A first demonstrator of the Geneva Public Portal to Anticipation will be shown at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, as an integral part of the Swiss Pavilion.
Building on the experiences of an expected 1.5 million visitors and the augmented knowledge base of the newly launched GESDA Anticipation Observatory, the interactive exhibition will be further expanded, allowing citizens around the world to create personalized intelligence, fostering a greater sense of agency, connection, and action.
The feedback and input from visitors will be used to feed existing and new GESDA initiatives that turn anticipated science opportunities into real use cases for citizens. Full-scale implementation of the Geneva Public Portal to Anticipation is planned for 2027 with a physical exhibition in Geneva, flexible Anticipation Satellites around the world, as well as an open online platform.
